The beginning ...
"My neighbor suggested that I take an adult education course with her in 1981. At that time, the Bloomingdale escalator led down to a wonderful quilt display. So the quilt course at Quaker Ridge Elementary School sounded like fun. The quilting teacher was Colette Leico. But the class was full. My neighbor suggested that I call Colette and ask if she could expand the class so that I could take it. The class was offered in the Home Economics room of the Quaker Ridge Elementary School. Colette said, "Sure, come on." The group taking the class was an intimate set of like spirited women. When the class was over, Gert Hofheimer suggested, "Let's have a quilting group." Without her, we would never have gotten it going. She organized blue tables at St. James the Less, in Scarsdale.
"Colette never made a quilt. She was a paper maker. Many years later, after I had lost touch with her, I received one of her paper collages in memory of a friend and cherish it still today. I have Colette Leico's paper collage framed and hanging in my dining room. It was her class and the wonderful women I met there that helped me to expand my love of quilting."
