First Place

This quilt is a happy ending to a difficult time in my life.  "Tropical Breeze" is made from fabrics I purchased while vacationing in Palm Desert, California, in February 2008.  I was having some major health issues then and looking at this combination of batiks cheered me.  Soon after returning home I had surgery and worked on the quilt (machine pieced and machine quilted) while I convalesced.  It is based on "Autumn Braid," a pattern from Cozy Quilt Designs of El Cajon, CA.
